Usually I write every week about making money using the internet, but my blog is also a work-at-home blog, which does include other types of business that do not necessarily include the internet. So I thought I would give you guys a peek into the world of drop shipping. It can be very lucrative, and like the internet, you do not have to handle any actual products. You simply need to promote them, which can be done an any of the usual ways, commercials, newspaper ads, magazine ads, and of course the internet. Its your choice. A customer places an order with you and your drop shipping company automatically ships out your product for you.

Wholesale companies and drop shipping companies have become the big hit with the work at home deal. Wholesale companies and drop shipping have also become a big hit on auctions like Ebay and Yahoo. If you sell the right items you can make pretty good money by drop shipping and buying wholesale. Their are a lot of wholesale companies and drop shipping companies out there on the web. Many people charge you for a list of wholesale companies or drop shipping companies. Most of the list are not worth the money because most of the companies no longer exist. I’m not saying all list are like that. But majority of them are. But why pay for those list when you can get all of that free? Home Business Insurance, is it needed?

Home-based businesses are taking unnecessary risks by not taking out adequate commercial insurance cover, according to research from Direct Line for Business. The study found that 28 per cent of home-based companies have no form of business insurance at all, with just 12 per cent having sufficient protection if their business was temporarily unable to trade. Furthermore, only 32 per cent of at-home businesses people have taken out public liability insurance, and just 11 per cent have product liability insurance, putting themselves at risk from claims made against them.

The majority of businesses based at home have not taken out business insurance and leave themselves vulnerable to being unable to cover the cost of a crisis, Direct Line for Business warns. Kate Syred, head of Direct Line for Business, said: “With so few businesses being protected from a liability claim, or an unexpected pause in trading, this research highlights the need for business owners to think about specific business insurance. Without it, dreams of being a business owner could quickly become a nightmare.” When you decide to “work from home,” please take the time and discuss it with your home owners insurance policy company. Tell them your now operating a business out of your house and find out what coverage’s you need. A lot of times you can find discounts since you already have a policy with your company. Don’t blow this off and think its not important, the last thing you want is to lose your home over some product you sold on the internet!

With 2010 here, most marketers are frantically putting the finishing touches on marketing plans. Before focusing too hard on video or social ad formats, however, marketers should plan a bit more in email. Email is old, you say? Email is proven, say the experts. Blaine Mathieu, chief marketing officer with email hub Lyris, insists that email will continue to be a strong force in marketing through the New Year. Here are Mathieu’s top trends for 2010. “Email will continue to be an anchor for multimedia and online marketing,” said Mathieu. “All indications are that email will continue to grow into 2010. Email is recognized as the highest ROI form of online marketing and it’s measurable. Even though email is the ‘grandfather’, it really is the cornerstone and will remain.

Mathieu also expects to see more integration between email and social ad platforms. “As part of the social mix, online marketers will continue to integrate social media with email marketing to ensure that brands, projects and products are cross-marketed and connecting with consumers. More than just social integration, though, Mathieu expects to see integration of most other online ad formats and email through 2010. “It’s always the promise on the horizon,” said Mathieu. “But in 2010 you’re going to see more progress toward truly achieving integrated marketing. Any marketer not using integrated tool sets is doing a disservice to the brand. Entire organizations will be working with social applications to connect with the consumer base.” Also don’t forget, set up with http://www.aweber.com or some other well known email / auto responder service to manage your email lists, it is an absolute must, if you want to be profitable with online marketing.

The Power of Keywords and Market Research

This is going to be a pretty short post over my personal strategy for getting free traffic to my websites:

It’s simple:

Go to google’s keyword tool then take down a list of searches per month then open up a new tab or window in firefox, internet explorer, safari, or chrome and type in the keywords to a search. Now look right under the place you type in your search then look at page results.

If you’re looking at phrases make sure you “put quotations around the keywords”..this helps you understand the power and the real competition within the keyword phrases…quotations alone will drop page results by millions.

Now like I said in the last post, I think it’s best to find keywords with under 100,000 page results balanced with 2,000+ searches/month.

BUT this rule is flexible…what I personally like to see is the best search/result ratios I can find.

Building your business from the ground up:

Once you set you understand what it takes mentally to run a business it’s time to start setting up your business.

Will Smith, along with a bunch of other wise people ; ), said something along the lines of “I don’t set out one day saying I’m going to build the biggest wall the world has ever known, I build a great wall by waking up and laying one brick perfectly every day.”

It’s the SAME EXACT THING with starting online business.

The first couple of bricks come with finding a great market to start your business inside of.

** As you grow and gain more experience(if you choose the information industry) you’ll find out that product creation lays along the same lines as product creation but that’s for another time ; ) )

So when we’re looking to grow an online business and take action we’re thinking…how in the world do we start online business? How to I go out and find a great market to make money in?

Here are my guidelines for finding a great market(in another other word niche) :

1. Find a product with strong emotional needs attached to it. Needs that people will pay to fulfill. How do you find that? Well just ask yourself…if there’s one thing I could fix in my life..one thing I could change, what would it be and how much would I pay to find a way to fix this problem?

2. Market research: There’s a few great tools for market research so I’ll just hook you up with a free one to start…

a. Obviously it’s google and it’s pretty reliable considering it comes from the source. http://www.googlekeywordtool.com/

**Also…a great way to see if you’ve found a great market is to do a search on google and look at the paid advertisements on top and on the side of the search results….this is pay-per-click advertising and if you see a lot of people advertising for the keywords you typed into google then you’ve found a great profitable market.

b. Now here’s the market research tool I use to research my markets to make sure

1. We have a good search/month to page result ratio

2. To see if we have a market that’s willing to pay for the products being sold.

Now…just for a little more reference…market samurai is great for search engine optimization…if you’re looking to get ranked well in google or through search engines & an easier way to drive traffic to your site, this product helps with that too. The best part about this is it’s only a one time fee…I’m still kind of shocked about that one.

3. Find a market you’re passionate about….do something you love because we’re in this business to enjoy our lives more…so why not enter a market that we enjoy to be a part of?

So there you have it….no fluff way to find and establish a great market…

When you’re looking for a market you’re looking for a healthy market that’s willing to pay to solve their problems.

Make sure you find a place with page results smaller 100,000 results so you can make sure you rank well on google.

The key is to find soft spots in the market that you can attack or be willing to spend the money for paid traffic….

There’s a LOT of ways to make money online and I feel that information and knowledge is the new currency in our society.

We’ve very recently shifted from a time(from the birth of baby Jesus(our calender friend)) where we lived to be no older than 20 or 30 and where we had to work physically to survive.

This is drastically different then today where by the time we’re 20, we’re young and ready to go out and experience what the world has to offer.

Information almost doubles daily and our knowledge and careers evolve incredibly fast.

What’s valid today will more than likely be outdated within a year or two.

So how do we survive and how do we keep up with technology?

Information…we learn all the new advancements and technologies.

What do we do when we’re looking to learn a new hobby or succeed in your job or on a way to improve your life?

Whether it’s relationship problems, stress, rising children, improving, investing, sports, hobbies….you look to learn from the best so you can become the best….

You look to learn from people who have already gone through the same problems as you and you find out how they fixed these problems…

Information is incredibly valuable because we’re driven EMOTIONALLY to solve that problem…we’re genuinely feeling bad because we have a problem…whether it’s in how much we weigh, how we feel about ourselves, what we’ve done with our lives…all of that. WE HAVE A HUGE DRIVE AND A REAL PROBLEM THAT WE FEEL LIKE WE NEED TO GET FIXED AND WE’RE WILLING TO PAY MONEY TO THE PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP US.

That my friend is the golden market.

Finding people with real problems and to be able to make a living through helping them…

Not through loose 90 pounds in 90 day and get rich quick schemes….but through helping real people make better lives for themselves…that’s why we’re all here.

To help others and as a side effect we live a free and happy life…why?

Because that’s what we ask for in return…not a car or a huge house but a flexible job where we can enjoy ourselves and make a difference : )

Building and growing a business where you directly help others while building a great future for yourself…now that’s a business we’d all love to be in.

Want to work from home, but not sure what to do?

For me, the best home-based business is built around my already well-developed writing and communication skills. I’m willing to bet that the same is true for most successful entrepreneurs. The field that they launch a business in may be different, but the skills they deploy have been with them for quite some time. My strength is communications; for you it may be analytics, sales, organization, networking or even crafts and design. If you’re thinking about starting a business, ask yourself what you enjoy doing, what you’re good at, who you know and who might be willing to spend money on the products or services produced from those skills. Sometimes, a good brainstorming session with a friend is all you need to jumpstart your own home-based business.

The one caution I would add is that you need to look hard at the dollars and cents — and hours of work required — before you launch into a new home-based business. If you’re not a numbers person, ask an analytical friend or relative to give you a reality check. It’s easy to get carried away with the vision of what you could do, and neglect to look at how much you are likely to earn from the work that you do. For instance, there are many outlets for freelance writing that will pay $10 or $15 for an article that takes you three hours to write. There simply aren’t enough hours in the day to make a living at that kind of gig — you’re better off taking a retail job that won’t exhaust your brain, and pitching articles to mainstream publications in your free time.

Also, when first starting out, pick that one thing you are good at, and stick to it, until you become a well known “expert” in that field, what ever it is. Then and only then move on to expand your business. You must stay focused on one thing at a time. With all the get rich quick schemes out there its very easy to be pulled in eighty different directions. Believe I know, I was there myself. Sticking with building your online business…THE HARD TIMES

So it’s 11:50PM and I just got back from the hospital and my grandpa’s been diagnosed with Pneumonia…

My online business is somewhat struggling and it isn’t growing the way I’d hoped.

I’m sick and I’m running out of time and I’m running out of money to keep me surviving off of my funding…

Most people would be giving up and finding a new job right now…

I won’t..I’ve worked way too hard to give up now. I’ve spent the last 6 months in a fight to build an income through online business and I will NEVER give up on my dream to make a career out of my business…

Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan and sometimes the going gets tough but I won’t give up on my dream for a better life.

I dream where I can travel the world and meet all of the amazing people in this industry, I want to be able to study the things I actually care about and to not be stuck inside of a job or a career for my entire life. I love the life of flexibility and it’s something I’ll ride out till I die….literally. I’ll ride online business to the point where I become homeless…why?

Because it’s the only lifestyle I’d ever feel I’d be happy in.

Sometimes the going gets rough and sometimes we feel like giving up…

It’s time like these our why becomes important and it’s times like these that make or break us and it’s times like these that show us who we really are and what we really want in our life…

The question is…when this happens to you…when you’re on the bridge of extinction…will you fight for your career or will you roll over and let all of your hard work and all of your efforts fall through the floor? Will you give up because the life of working from home for 4 or 5 hours a day, taking vacations when we feel like it, taking days off when we feel run out, changing our businesses when we get tired of our current business…it’s times like these where we really find out.

Am I willing to give it everything I have to get a life of freedom?

I always told myself I would today is the day I’m faced with loosing everything I’ve worked to build in my life and today is the day I stepped up.

I’m going to ride my business and I WILL GROW MY ONLINE BUSINESS…this blog has just turned into a fight for survival…these next few weeks I’ll be blogging about my efforts to drive free traffic to my business’s new product sales page.

Starting Online Business: Building Your Business Plan

When I first started looking into starting online business I quickly realized there were almost 100 different ways to make money if I wanted to work from home..

And even though all these ways to make money are exciting I felt kind of confused where to start…

So I did my research and built a business plan or a way to make sure I didn’t get lost on my online adventure.

Building a business plan has a lot of advantages:

It gives us the tools to take our boat from the coast of California to the Caribbean…without a compass and a really good GPS system we could be in a crapload of trouble! If we don’t know where we’re going it’d take a miracle to make it out of our boat travels alive…let alone make it to our promised land.

Without a business plan your hope of building an online business that makes money turn out a fight for life so why not build a plan to help guide your boat to the Caribbean?

So here are my steps to building an online business plan:

1. Find a proven way to make money online.

2. Replicate this proven way to make money..go out and implement what you learned

3. Evaluate the results

Find a business mentor:

Trevor Poulson is an internet marketing guru who’s become my mentor and business partner…he’s been working full time in online business for 3 years so he’s teaching me the ins and outs of his ways to make money.

He’s shown me maps and ideas to build a successful online business and it’s been a life savior…

There’s nothing like getting a hands on feedback and learning from someone who’s become one of the 5% of successful online businessmen.

So go out and find an online business / internet marketing mentor then take their proven maps and implement them.

There’s two ways to do this:

1. Find an guru that’s made millions of dollars and has been great reputation inside of the online business community.

2. Find a mentor that will give you direct/hands on interaction…find someone that will guide you and show you the way to making a living from online business.

So here’s my step-by-step action plan:

1. Do your research and find a business model(a way to make money) I have a category in this blog called business models.

2. Find a proven mentor/product to use…there’s a thousand ways to make money online so why try to carve your own to start?

Find a proven strategy from a proven businessman and you have a winner…

The only thing left to do is implement.
